Arslan Hazreti

Azerbaijani kamancha player

Arslan Hazreti was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1976.  He began learning kamancha (Azerbaijani spike fiddle) at the age of 13.  When he was only 18 years old, Arslan performed on a self-built kamancha at the Fajr Music Festival in Tehran with Khananda vocalist Aghakhan Abdullayev and Qawwali vocalist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.  Arslan has studied Mugham (Azerbaijani modal theory) under such masters as Cavit Murtezaoğlu and Adalet Vezirov.  He moved to Istanbul in 2004.  He has worked with many acclaimed artists including Susan Deyhim and Aynur Doğan, and has taught at Ross Daly’s Labyrinth Musical Workshop.  Listen for his amazing performance with the Mad Twinz and Abbos Kosimov in one of the two forthcoming Stereognosis music videos featuring B-Boy Neguin and Beirut graffiti artist Omar Kabbani of Ashekman.   Here he is playing live on the banks of the Bosporus in Istanbul:
